The Dark Knight

Why so serious? The definitive superhero crime epic.

9.0/10 2008 2h 32m FULLHD

Synopsis

In the wake of Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman have inspired hope in Gotham City. Working alongside District Attorney Harvey Dent — Gotham’s “White Knight” — and Commissioner Jim Gordon, Batman wages an effective war against organized crime. The mob is desperate, their money laundered through shady accountants and their operations crumbling under the trio’s relentless assault.

Enter the Joker — a figure of pure chaos with no rules, no allegiances, and no fear. Wearing smeared clown makeup and wielding a twisted philosophy that “madness is like gravity… all it takes is a little push,” the Joker systematically dismantles Gotham’s institutions from within. His schemes are designed not to profit but to prove that anyone, even the best among us, can be corrupted.

As the Joker’s reign of terror escalates — with bombs, hostage scenarios, and impossible moral dilemmas — Batman is forced to cross ethical lines he swore never to cross. Harvey Dent’s tragic transformation into the scarred vigilante Two-Face represents the Joker’s ultimate victory: proof that chaos can destroy even the most virtuous soul. Heath Ledger’s legendary, Oscar-winning performance as the Joker elevated the film into a meditation on morality, sacrifice, and what it truly means to be a hero.

Director & Cast

Director: Christopher Nolan — the British-American auteur whose meticulous approach to filmmaking and preference for practical effects transformed superhero cinema into prestige drama.

Cast: Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Heath Ledger as The Joker, Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes, and Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth.

Behind the Scenes

Heath Ledger’s performance is widely considered one of the greatest in film history. He won a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. The film was the first to gross over $1 billion worldwide without a 3D release. Nolan shot key sequences using IMAX cameras, a groundbreaking choice for a narrative feature at the time.
