Point Break

100% pure adrenaline where the law meets the ultimate thrill seekers.

7.2/10 1991 2h 2m HD

Synopsis

Fresh out of the FBI Academy in Quantico, young agent Johnny Utah is assigned to the bank robbery division in Los Angeles, where a gang of robbers known as the “Ex-Presidents” has been hitting banks with clockwork precision for three years. The robbers wear rubber masks of former US Presidents — Reagan, Carter, Nixon, and LBJ — and are in and out in 90 seconds flat, leaving no forensic evidence behind.

Utah’s veteran partner, Agent Angelo Pappas, has a theory: the Ex-Presidents are surfers. The robberies happen only during the summer swell season, and the tans, athleticism, and timing all point to the beach. Utah goes undercover, learning to surf and infiltrating the tight-knit surfing community of Southern California, where he meets Bodhi — a charismatic, philosophical adrenaline junkie who leads a group of extreme sports enthusiasts.

As Utah falls deeper into Bodhi’s world of surfing, skydiving, and living life on the absolute edge, a genuine friendship forms between agent and suspect. But the evidence mounts, and Utah faces an impossible choice: his duty as a federal agent or his loyalty to a man who showed him how to truly feel alive. The famous foot chase through Venice Beach, the skydiving sequences, and the emotionally charged final scene on an Australian beach make Point Break a unique blend of action, philosophy, and pure adrenaline.

Director & Cast

Director: Kathryn Bigelow — years before winning the Academy Award for The Hurt Locker, Bigelow proved she could direct action as well as anyone in Hollywood, bringing artistry and psychological depth to the genre.

Cast: Keanu Reeves as Johnny Utah, Patrick Swayze as Bodhi, Gary Busey as Angelo Pappas, Lori Petty as Tyler Endicott, John C. McGinley as Ben Harp, and James LeGros as Roach.

Behind the Scenes

Patrick Swayze performed his own skydiving scenes, completing over 50 jumps. Keanu Reeves also trained extensively in surfing for the role. The skydiving footage was filmed by actual skydivers with helmet-mounted cameras. Director Kathryn Bigelow is the first woman to direct a film that became a major action franchise (a 2015 remake followed). The film has achieved cult classic status and is regularly cited as one of the best action films of the 1990s.
