Gandalf is the wise and powerful wizard from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth legendarium. Known as Gandalf the Grey and later Gandalf the White, he played a crucial role in the quest to destroy the One Ring and defeat the dark lord Sauron. His wisdom, courage, and memorable quotes have made him one of the most beloved characters in fantasy literature.

Before Fame

Gandalf is actually a Maia spirit named Olórin. Before coming to Middle-earth, he dwelled in the Undying Lands and was considered the wisest of the Maiar.
