Synopsis

When Ethan Hunt and his IMF team intercept a deal involving three plutonium cores, the exchange goes wrong and the nuclear material falls into the hands of the Apostles — the remnants of a terrorist organization called the Syndicate. With enough plutonium to build three nuclear devices, the Apostles plan to detonate them simultaneously in a scheme to reshape the world order.

The CIA, distrustful of Hunt’s methods, sends agent August Walker — a hulking, no-nonsense operative — to shadow him and ensure the mission succeeds. As Hunt races from Belfast to Berlin, Paris to London, and finally to Kashmir, he must navigate betrayals, double-crosses, and impossible choices while proving that one man’s refusal to accept “acceptable losses” is not a weakness but his greatest strength.

The film’s action set-pieces are legendary: Tom Cruise actually performed a HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) jump at 25,000 feet, piloted a helicopter through narrow mountain canyons, ran full-speed across the rooftops of London (breaking his ankle on camera and continuing the take), and engaged in a brutal bathroom brawl that ranks among the greatest fight scenes ever filmed. Fallout is widely considered the best entry in the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Director & Cast

Director: Christopher McQuarrie — the first director to helm consecutive Mission: Impossible films, his partnership with Cruise produced the franchise’s most cohesive and emotionally resonant entry.

Cast: Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Henry Cavill as August Walker, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Sean Harris as Solomon Lane, and Angela Bassett as Erica Sloane.

Behind the Scenes

Tom Cruise performed all major stunts himself, including over 100 HALO jumps in training. When he broke his ankle jumping between buildings, the shot made it into the final film. The helicopter chase was filmed with Cruise actually piloting the aircraft after earning his helicopter license specifically for the role. The film earned $791 million worldwide.
