Family drama movies focus on relationships between relatives, care, responsibility and conflict. “Family drama” describes a story theme; it does not mean that a film is suitable for every child.
Two different kinds of family story
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
For a story about parenthood and financial hardship, start with The Pursuit of Happyness. Sony’s official film page describes Chris Gardner raising his young son while trying to establish a career and lists a US PG-13 classification.
Little Women
For a story centred on sisters and their changing ambitions, explore our Little Women guide. Check the release year on the film page and provider because the novel has several screen adaptations. Different versions can have different runtimes and classifications.
Watching together
Choose based on the ages and interests of the people watching. Financial hardship, grief and conflict can be difficult subjects, so read a content advisory as well as the premise. A family relationship at the centre of a film is not evidence that the film is intended for young viewers.
