I Know What You Did Last Summer movies in order and continuity

The I Know What You Did Last Summer films begin with the 1997 slasher and continue through sequels and a later return to its original characters. Release order is the clearest route, but the third film and the television series need a separate continuity explanation.

The first two films

Start with I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), then I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998). The first follows young people trying to conceal a road accident and facing a killer associated with that secret. The second continues Julie James’s story, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. returning.

I’ll Always Know and the 2025 film

I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) uses a new group and a different setting. It is a separate branch rather than a necessary middle chapter in Julie’s life. I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) returns to the world of the first two films with new young characters and returning figures. To follow that continuation, watch 1997, 1998 and then 2025; add the 2006 film as a separate franchise variation.

The television adaptation and original novel

The 2021 television series retells the premise with a different ensemble and is not a season-length sequel between the films. Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel is the source of the central secret-and-consequences idea, but the screen franchise makes substantial changes. Specify the year when searching because both the original movie, the later film and the series share the title.
