The Blue Ribbons and the school outsiders
Steve’s arrival in Cradle Bay puts him between the admired Blue Ribbon students and the outcasts who distrust them. Gavin’s suspicions and Rachel’s perspective make them important to the investigation. Dr. Caldicott connects the apparently improved teenagers to the adults running the school. The premise turns the pressure to conform into a science-fiction horror threat, rather than simply following rivalry between ordinary school cliques.
