Respeto (2017)

Respeto cast and character roles

Rap, poetry and two generations

Hendrix and Doc belong to different generations, but language gives them a way to confront connected experiences of fear and repression. The festival record emphasizes the political dimension of hip-hop rather than presenting the film only as a music competition. Abra’s central performance joins the battle-rap setting to a coming-of-age drama. Respeto is the 2017 Philippine film; Respect may appear as an English translation of its title.
