Prequel or remake?
The 2011 film is a prelude to John Carpenter’s 1982 The Thing. Its Antarctic research team and Kate Lloyd belong to that earlier part of the story. Although the films share a title and the threat of an imitating creature, the 2011 cast should not be confused with the Kurt Russell ensemble. The central horror question is who can still be trusted when appearances no longer prove identity.
