The Hitchcock idea behind Owen’s plan
Owen watches Strangers on a Train and interprets its murder-swapping premise as a solution for his relationship with his mother and Larry’s anger toward his ex-wife. Larry has not agreed to the arrangement Owen imagines. That misunderstanding drives the dark comedy. DeVito also directs, while Anne Ramsey plays the formidable mother whose presence gives the title its immediate meaning.
