Cannon Busters: characters, story and anime guide
Cannon Busters is a science fantasy road adventure that brings an optimistic friendship robot into the company of a much less cooperative outlaw. The 2019 animated series mixes western imagery, robots, bounty hunters and a search for a missing prince.
Sam, Casey and Philly the Kid
Sam is the friendship droid whose search gives the journey its direction. Casey Turnbuckle is a maintenance robot, while Philly the Kid is the immortal renegade travelling in a pink Cadillac that can transform. The contrast is the central appeal: Sam approaches encounters as opportunities for friendship, while Philly expects trouble and often brings it with him.
How the comic relates to the anime
LeSean Thomas created the original Cannon Busters comic. The animation translates that world into a moving road story rather than requiring viewers to arrive with knowledge of the comic. Start with the first episode to understand why the unlikely travelling party stays together.
Is Cannon Busters for children?
Despite its colorful robots, Netflix categorizes the US listing as adult animation with a TV-MA rating. Violence and adult material make the tone different from a young children’s robot adventure. Check the classification attached to the version available in your region before choosing it for family viewing.
