Radiant anime: Seth, the Nemesis and where to begin
Radiant is a fantasy anime following Seth, a young sorcerer who wants to find the source of the monsters called Nemesis. His ambition is larger than defeating individual enemies: he wants to confront the fear and discrimination surrounding people touched by them.
Seth’s quest and the Radiant
Seth survives contact with a Nemesis and gains the ability to use magic. Alma raises and trains him, but his enthusiasm frequently outruns his judgment. Radiant is the name of the supposed origin of the Nemesis, so the title refers to the goal of his journey rather than a school or a single attack.
The central companions
Mélie and Doc become important companions as Seth encounters other sorcerers. Their different temperaments interrupt the simple lone-hero pattern: cooperation, mistrust and the consequences of being labelled dangerous matter as much as combat. The Inquisition adds a human institution to the threats facing sorcerers.
Anime and source material
The anime adapts Tony Valente’s French comic. Watch season one before season two; the second season assumes familiarity with Seth’s abilities and relationships. For a first viewing, episode order is clearer than jumping between arc summaries. Crunchyroll’s episode listings distinguish the original and dubbed versions.
