Mortal Kombat II (2026)

Mortal Kombat II (2026) is a martial-arts fantasy film. Earthrealm’s fighters face Shao Kahn’s threat, with Johnny Cage joining the returning champions. The fighting-game adaptation continues its combination of supernatural rivalries and graphic martial-arts combat.

Cast and filmmakers

Directed by Simon McQuoid. The featured cast includes Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Lewis Tan, Hiroyuki Sanada.

Story, context and what to watch first

Karl Urban plays Johnny Cage in the follow-up to the 2021 Mortal Kombat film. This is not Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, the sequel from the earlier movie continuity. Watch the 2021 film first for the returning characters; expect explicit combat rather than a family-oriented tournament adventure.

Johnny Cage and the Earthrealm conflict

The addition of Johnny Cage gives returning viewers a new fighter to follow, while Shao Kahn supplies the larger threat to Earthrealm. The official synopsis emphasises brutal combat: this is a game adaptation for viewers expecting the franchise’s violence. Familiarity with the game’s roster can add recognition, but the 2021 film establishes this screen version’s returning cast.
